chilled out with friends last night at this sweet new place called wine flair @ thomson, located along thomson rd (duh!).. instead of the usual thomson prata place, we decided to give this place a try.. turns out it was pretty good.. they played oldies and served good food and drinks.. found out to my surprise that sussie and andrew lee broke up a month and a half back, always thought they were an item, well fortunately she seemed to be taking it very well last night.. things werent too chummy between leow and his gal too.. while walking back to our cars, she tripped while walking, then broke down in front of sussie, leow was nonchalant, fucking de javu i tell ya.. more evidence that august has been a fucked up month for relationships sigh.. me, baey, yeelin, now sussie and leow? how fucked up can it get in a month?.. i guess it must be some kind of renewal thingy eh, a time when everybody's in back in the pot again haha
ok enough of bitching and whining! the topic of the day actually is hon sui sen.. since i've been studyin in hss library the past week, i decided to check out who this guy really is..

wikipedia search return:
Hon Sui Sen (Chinese: éŸİ瑞生, b. 1916, d. 1983) was born in Penang in the British Straits Settlements and was educated at Saint Xavier's Institution. Hon was top-placed in the 1932 Senior Cambridge Certificate Examination. In 1935, he commenced studies at Raffles College, Singapore, graduating in 1938 with a Class I Diploma in Science.

After graduation, Hon entered the Straits Settlements Civil Service as a Police Court Magistrate. Following this, he assumed responsibilities as a Deputy Collector of Land Revenue prior to the Japanese Occupation of Malaya and Singapore. After the War, Hon remained with the Land Office and by 1957 had become Land Commissioner. In 1960, Hon was attached to the World Bank for an economic management course, where he met Albert Winsemius. Dr Winsemius led the United Nations Survey Mission to Singapore in late 1960, and was to play a major role in the formulation of Singapore's national economic development strategy.

Hon returned to serve as the first Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board or EDB (1961-1968), and then as the Chairman of the Development Bank of Singapore or DBS (1968-70). He was also council member of the Singapore Institute of Management from 1965 to 1968. Hon formally retired from the Civil Service in 1965, but his involvement in Singapore's economic development continued unabated. In 1970, Hon succeeded Goh Keng Swee as Minister of Finance and served in that capacity for 13 years until 1983. In 1982, Hon was named the Economic Minister of the Year by the Euromoney magazine.

As Chairman of the EDB (founded August 1, 1961), Hon played a key role in the implementation of Singapore's industrialisation strategy, with the Jurong Industrial Estate (JIE) as the first major project. Sited on swamplands in the west of Singapore, the JIE soon became the centrepiece of an industrialisation programme that stretched from garments and toys to petrochemicals and electronics. The first factory in Jurong, the National Iron and Steel Mill, was opened on August 2, 1963. By 1968, there were some 300 factories employing 21,000 people in Jurong. In conjunction with the development of the industrial estate, satellite towns were built in the west of Singapore, transforming the Jurong area into a centre of both industrial and residential development.

During his time with DBS, Hon was a supporter of the establishment of the Asian Dollar Market and thus played a key role in the development of Singapore's financial services industry.

Subsequently as Finance Minister, he established the Bases Economic Conversion Department to oversee the conversion and commercialisation of lands and facilities that had been left behind by the British military following their withdrawal in 1968. Hon also played a major role in the development of Singapore's tourism industry, beginning with the transformation of Pulau Blakang Mati, an previously fortified island off the southern coast of Singapore, into a resort destination under the new appellation of Sentosa Island.

Hon passed away while in office as Minister of Finance on October 14, 1983.

There! to all the HON-ny bastards out there haha, ya learn something new everyday! haha.. turns out he's names on some old dollar bills too.. hope it brings me good fortune for the midterms then!

Walk On By

Walk on by,
The house where you still live,
Walk on by,
The place where we would kiss,

And the room where,
I held you tight,
Tonight,
I must walk on by,

Yeah, walk on by,
The room where you still sleep,
Walk on by,
The company that you keep,

And the room where,
I held you tight,
Tonight,
I must walk on by,

Yeah, somehow, I know,
No, I won't forget you,
No, no, no, no, no,
I won't,

You won't forget me,
No, no, no, no, no, no,

I'll keep on walking,
Away from here,
I'll forget you when I reach,
The other side,

Walk on by,
The house where you still live,
Walk on by,
The place where we would kiss,

And the room where,
I held you tight,
Tonight,
I must walk on by,

And the room where,
I held you tight,
Tonight,
I must walk on by...

holler.. holler.. aight aight! midterm breaks round da corner and so are the midterm tests.. gotta start gotta start da muggin if ya dig what i mean brudders and sistas of da hood.. haha
still in hip hop hangover.. even been wearin trucker caps around lately haha.. seriously they're kinda cool actually.. must be the A-block infuence la.. counting the number of ppl from my block who wear trucker caps around school, theres quite a handful if ya consider the fact that i used to think trucker caps were only for mats..
bling bling bash 05 was a great success.. 300 tix sold to the hall and close to a 100 odd to the public.. gotham was almost packed to its full capacity of 500 on thu night.. i.e. that means a generous comm treat for us yeah! haha.. but the effort behind the result cannot go unmentioned.. kudos to the HPB fellas!
it was a night to remember.. with the kr rockers belting hit after hit.. programme was good.. drinks good.. people good.. atmosphere good.. overall good fun! i even had my hair done by the graham webb guys! they had spare time after doing the pageant folks so decided we deserved a styling as well haha.. not that it really mattered to me since i was in my velvet fedora most of the night.. they said i looked like a pimp haha!
the most dramatic occurance of the night was jordans missing.. with shots going for 4 bucks, jordan came down and was totally thrashed after downing 7 tequillas and a flaming lambo.. he couldnt be found for 2 hours.. he didnt even answer his phone.. not until bryna found him in the toilet cubicle sleeping on the bowl haha
well neway now that its over, its time to study.. really need the midterm break to take a breather from work and try to catch up as well.. gonna start campin at honsui sen from monday onwards liao loh!

what's wrong with this world man? maybe it's a cruel joke Gods played on us all?.. so this is what the lost of innocence means.. when we are no longer children.. no more fun and games like when we were younger.. we become cynical, we become sad.. we become different?
no im not talkin about myself la.. haha im alright, still the same old goon i've always been.. im glad im a happy person.. because things seldom get me down.. but seeing my closest friends suffering really saddens me..
today one of my best friends confided in me.. a regret for one seriously bad decision.. seeing how it is now.. i really hope and pray that you'll be strong and dont let it affect you
sigh why cant we never grow up?.. be always protected from the evils around us.. i guess this is indeed a point in our lives when we learn the most about life.. what to do, how to act.. what we believe in now will define who we are in the future.. we will eventually understand the consequences of the choices we make now, for better or for worse..

today was ibg swimming day! despite the downpour in the early afternoon, the competition still continued amidst a healthy crowd of competitors and supporters.
i took the 4x25 freestyle event as well as the fly event of the medley.. in the free event, we finished a close second to b-blk, while in the medley, we came in third.. overall A-blk tied with c blk for fourth which was ok la haha..
this weekend has been packed with my ibg events namely rugby and swimming.. been struggling to clear up work and tutorials haha.. hope i can complete my online assignment due tmr morning man..

~we are the champions my friend..~ ~and we'll keep on fighting till the end..~~ nanana!..~ yay A blocks finally won gold in an ibg sport which is not combined! so there! haha..
today was the touch rugby carnival at the src.. we were the favourites together with the combined b-e block team who had enwei and haojie along with an array of track sprinters.. having hardly trained and being so slack as usual, mark, weisheng and i were still confident of grabbing the trophy for A-block.. which we did of course
we thrashed d block and c block 4-1 and 4-0 respectively with me scoring one in the second game.. when it came down to the deciding match between us and the combined team.. we played defensively and held the opponents to a 0-0 scoreline at half time.. we only needed a draw to top the league table.. early in the second half, a confusion among our wing allowed ben paul to break through scoring one for the combined team.. but we did not let it get us down.. minutes later, mark and ivan did a brilliant scissors which created a gap for mark to score from 15m out sealing victory for the A-team!
the skies then broke out in thunderous applause and shed tears of joy on the field forcing us to call it a day.. well done people, well done!
