okay heres an incredulously long post that most ppl will probably skip. its boring and of no concern to you. but jus in case ya have nothing to do and too much time to kill, read on.
thanks for the wild trip, it was the best four months of rugby ever! maybe its the end of the road, maybe not. but if its really gonna be the last competitive tournament i'm playin in, then heres my ode to the sport i love dearly.
never was a legendary prodigy like desmond wee or steedon jessop, never was an umaga or lomu. cant say that i was made for the sport, which makes me kinda sad in a way, cos i couldnt be as good as i wanted. jus a spunky kid who picked up the odd shaped ball when he was ten, under the influence of his social studies teacher, and has never let go of it ever since. in a way rugby has moulded my character to be what it is today.
everybody needs something to keep him or her from the realities of life, be it studies, relationships or jus plain boredom. for me, i guess i felt the great sense of rush when i was on the field. its something you wont understand unless ya really love it. it makes ya feel good, so damn good.
as i recall those matches, ya know, the memorable ones ya never ever forget and ya talk about when old friends gather, i cant help but wish that i could go back to play those matches again. especially those matches lost due to jus one kick or a solitary try, or because someone took the last ball in instead of putting it out of play, or because somebody missed a tackle and let the opposite number through, those matches that could make ya heroes for a day if ya had won, those matches like SRU U-14 vs. Thailand of '97, bucks vs wanderers of '98, scc vs. blacks of '99, hcjc vs. sajc of '01 and the jus recently played src vs. wolfpackz.
after 12 years, a broken nose, a punched eye, two sprained ankles, a sprained thumb, 8 stitches, countless bruises, nights spent soaking muddy clothing and scrapping dirt off boots, team tours to KL, penang, hongkong, sydney and brisbane (all of which were FANTASTIC might i add!), many life skills learnt, many friends made on both sides of the field, maybe, jus maybe, its time to call it a day.
on a lighter note,
its the first time in ten years that my old man's helped me with my homework, thermodynamics no less, im impressed..!
