THE WOOD BETWEEN THE WORLDSokay once again,
its the time after christmas and just before new year,
nobody really wants to do shit.
speaking of christmas,
gifts this year were pretty good actually!
got a braun shaver, a complete ikea tool kit, lotsa gingerbread men and candy..
just to name a few.
stuff that i could really use, and eat.
i dont wanna be a know it all, but for crying out loud, there was no blardy inn!!!
every single christmas play, every single year, without fail, shows mary and joseph scampering around for a room only to be turned away. sure sure.. it makes for good story telling, but the truth was hotel 81 wasnt fully booked that night.
here's what probably happened according to many scholars.
as we know, mary and joseph were in bethlehem for the census dictated by herod, which required them to travel to their ancestral town. thus naturally yes, bethlehem would have been crowded with people. but if it were their ancestral town, all their relatives would be there, so wouldnt they stay with their relatives instead of looking for an inn. the fact that the young mary and joseph were relatively lower in the family hierachy, it would be disrespectful not to pay homage to the patriach in their ancestral town.
so why was it that the bible tells the story otherwise? in hebrew, the word "guestroom" and "inn" are the same. so as mentioned, the patriachal house would be full of family members i.e. the guesthouse was full. similarly, since mary and joseph were of lower hierachy, they would have had to stay in the outhouse where the animals were kept. it was not as dirty a place as one would expect however, and in fact the logical choice as the abundance of hay would be useful in delivery, nobody delivers a child right in a crowded living room of guests. furthermore, the heat from the animals would have provided more warmth for the baby.
so there, next time please stop saying that they were going around looking for an inn only to be turned away.
anyway,
i got so much to do, so little time,
yet i cant stop playing
BURNOUT TAKEDOWN!
yeah muhfugga..!
