went trail biking at bukit timah this morning.. off-roading is totally CRAZY!.. if ya thought how happenning can anything in singapore be?.. ya in for a surprise..
this was my virgin attempt so i didnt know what to expect.. when i got there, i was greeted with a 60 degree upslope (no kidding) ridden with tree roots and sharp rocks.. as the saying goes, what goes up must come down.. 10 metres ahead from the top of the slope, we had to ride down a similar slope, guranteed to bring ya balls
up to ya mouth.. the trail is full of these slopes, some even winding down.. one wrong slip and ya could very well be plummeting into a stream.. most bends have barriers but many dont.. and the track is sometimes only wide enough for the tires.. occasionally, like today, a fallen tree could be blocking the track.. so we had to carry our bikes and bash over and through to the other side..
hits and falls are common.. today, isaac flew off 5 metres from his bike when he was coming down one of the slopes.. luckily he fell into sparse vegatation which cushioned his fall.. but his de-railer was banged out of shape.. i too was not spared.. coming down one of the slopes, i thought i had made it.. but a brick jutting out in the ground threw my rear wheel off course and i skidded out of control.. i landed on some rocks and grazed my left hand and arm.. luckily i wipe my ass with my left hand haha *sardonic smile*
all in all it was good fun! the good feeling ya get when ya clear an upslope or downslope cannot be described in words.. each time ya clear a slope, it makes ya more confident about the next.. but never be complacent, respect every slope, cos even the pros fall and get hurt

10 commandments of trail biking:
1. Wear a helmet- its not to look cool, its to protect ya skull from cracking
2. Wear full-finger gloves- again its not to look cool, its to protect ya hands from being sheared off when ya fall
3. Wear shades- once again its not to look cool, its to protect ya eyes from dirt and branches
4. Carry a camelback- its not jus for water, its to protect ya spine
5. Wear a good pair of shoes that dont slip off ya pedals (preferbly cycling shoes)- this is very important for downslope stability
6. Never wear sandals- what the hell are ya thinkin? ya toenails might come off when ya fall
7. Never wear singlets- same theory
8. Guys, remember all the un-armed combat breakfall techniques they taught ya in the army?- if ya dont, remember them
9. Gals, if ya havent been to the army, learn it from the guys
10. Never cycle alone- otherwise if ya disappear also nobody know

hung out with three of my best friends ( yes yes.. seb i love you okay haha) last night.. while we were in the car singing to jay chous croony ballads and bon jovis hits with the window down and the cool midnight air breezing across my face, i thought to myself "whats up ahead in life man?"
i mean, what im saying is, my past two years in the army has been helluva ride.. but now im entering into a new phase with new changes and challeges.. its kinda daunting.. a lot of my friends are excited about entering into the university.. they think its a great time to have a ball, let loose, go wild, chase skirts.. its all about how they look, what they should wear, how they should act.. theres where they fall into the trap of superficiality..
yes we must have fun most definitely, im not a prude.. but take things into perspective man! don be overwhelmed by the what nots.. cos i foresee the following months ahead to be wrought with challenges and upheavals, triumphs and disappointments.. choppy waves lie ahead.. whoever works and fights harder and smarter towards the goal will ultimately be the winner.. focus, discipline, determination and perseverance..
when i trained under irwin seet, now director of the sports school ( i hated the guy, but i must admit he's good).. he always believed everything was in the mind.. he used to tell us to think of a personal psyche-up phrase like "hit-em!" to arouse us on the field.. mine used to be "bring it on bitch!".. and now it seems apt to use it once again.. cos lifes a bitch, and we're gonna have helluva a game ahead, so shut the fuck up and pick a uniform, go in and get the job done..

Bible verses of encouragement:
* If God is for us who then can be against us - Rom 8:31
* I will go in the strength of the Lord God - Ps 71:16
* Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us - Heb 12:1
* Even the youths shall be faint ad weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but they that wait upon the Lord Shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall wlk and not faint
- Is 10:31
* Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize. Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last for ever. That is why I run straight for the finishing line...'

stereotypes.. boys will be boys.. like how we'll always be addicted to soccer, how we sleep in our clothes when we come home late at night, how we can be glued to a game console for hours on end and how we are facinated by the details of moving mechanisms ..
on my recent cycling trip to desaru, my rear tube went flat and had to be replaced.. as i was replacing the tube with the help of several other guys, i realised that they were all more than eager to get their hands dirty and greasy simply because changing a tyre was a 'guy thing' and it was a show of masculinity to be able to change a flat tyre.. that of course has led to my recent interest in bike repair too haha
the same goes for many other 'male-dominated' areas such as engineering.. for example, during my attachment to powergas.. i realised that pipes and drills were synonymous to manliness.. when the guys speak of the technicalities of the projects, they are always so into it and they do so with so much passion
im not an MCP and am most certainly not trying to invoke gender bashing or a debate here, but dont ya find it interesting how boys have to play with trucks and hot wheels otherwise their parents think that they will grow up gay and be faggots.. well i must say that there are some things (other than naked women) that really turn a guy on and the women jus dont get it ;)

went to watch the live 8 concert screening at chijmes after revive ministry P&W session tonight.. what a performance! every big name was in it! bon jovi, coldplay, the killers, keane, even snoopdog haha, didnt know he was charitable..
its actually a movement with the cause raise awareness and to influence the G8 summit to pay more attention to the poverty stricken countries in africa.. to supply them with drugs and food.. the screening at chijmes was really nice since they set up two big screens in the garden above in addition to the one down by the courtyard, so we neednt buy drinks to watch the concert.. people could just sit down on the grass and enjoy the evening.. electrico was supposed to be performing live at chijmes too but too bad we missed it
haha in addition, went for a little sheesha session too! fancy that after P&W haha.. theres this cool place at selegie and everyone must really go check it out.. they have lemon, mango, peach, menthol, peppermint flavours to name a few and only cost 12 bucks per bong! they top up the charcoal for free so ya actually can stay there for hours on end.. the apple tea there is pretty mean too.. i heard that ya can find used bongs selling in chinatown for 40 bucks, might just get one haha, for the heck of it.. i can even use it as a vase!
