i inaugurated my bike today!.. we were watchin telly at 1am and ben casually suggested riding down to orchard past newton, maybe grab a bite along the way or somethin.. i was game so we took our bikes down for a spin.. the trip lasted about 40 mins to and fro.. didnt eat at newton in the end cos newtons past-midnight surcharge is outrageous.. had a drink at the nearby shell station instead.. wanted to exit from heeren and go down the orchard stretch to lido back to newton but ben insisted we not lest we bump into friends on this friday night ( we were in silly yellow outfits you see).. anyway the feel of the bike is so smooth.. and the suspensions very sensitive.. a good ride indeed..
what struck me most during our excursion out during the wee hours of the morning was the number of taxis on the roads at this ungodly hour.. most of which were empty.. rows and rows waiting their turn to pick up passengers at the newton taxi stand.. even along novena there were already long queues of not people but taxis.. it seems that the competition in the taxi industry is unbelievably bad..
many of these cabbies are middle aged men in their 40s who probably have a family of teenagers and a wife to support.. struggling to earn their keep, it is not surprising that some of them even have a day job in addition to being a night cabbie.. some cabbies were so tired that they were catching naps while waiting for passengers to approach..
this reminded me of an instance when i spoke to a cabbie on the way home late at night.. he mentioned that there are so many taxis on the road today its extremely difficult to earn a decent keep.. they take back roughly $1000 a month after deducting taxes and sorts.. many need not fill in income tax forms due to the simple fact that they dont earn enough.. this is a difficult situation if you have mouths to feed..
i know ive been a bastard on more than one count.. guilty of cursing at cabbies who are aggressive and reckless when im driving.. but looking deeper i kinda have a silent respect for these men who sacrifice their sleep so that you and i reach home safely at night

over the weekend.. i went to tioman to get my open water diver certification.. foresaking the chance to be a heineken beer boy at the world rugby sevens series played in singapore on the same weekend too! sigh.. but i had thorough fun in tioman nonetheless.. in fact i think thats the understatement of the year haha..
departing on friday evening we took the coach up to mersing and subsequently a boat to tioman island.. the total journey took 6 hours! by the time we were in bed it was 2+am alr!.. waking early the next morning.. we made two dives before lunch and one after.. although the equipment preps on board the rocking boat were tedious and tiring.. the diving itself was exhilirating!.. we reached max depth of 18m and clocked total time of 140 at malang rock, labas and renggis altogether.. plenty of staghorn corals and sea urchins down there but not much big fish.. the trigger fish are pretty scary though haha.. they're crazy little fishes the size of ya palm which charge at bullet speed towards ya.. bloody pain if ya get hit..
docked back at around the evening and had a splendid bbq seafood dinner at the beach bar where all the divers chill out and discuss their days adventures over cold corona beer.. one day of diving is really damn shack balls.. sure knock out once ya hit the sack.. well i did haha..
on day two, we did two dives in the morning before heading back to singapore.. reached back sunday night 10pm.. concluding an excellent dive experience

on a solemn note today.. galoo's buddy aufian jus got killed in a bike accident.. these few weeks have been filled with the passing of so many people dear to those close to me.. it really makes one wonder how insignificant we all are yet at the same time we are so significant to the people around us.. this paradox really makes me sad.. i once heard someone say, the congregation at your funeral reflects on how you've lived your life.. so true this sentence.. thinkin of one's death is a morbid thing but the biblical book of ecclesiastes says only a fool will refrain from talking about death.. a wise man thinks about it often.. who would i want at my funeral when i pass away? i pray that my family will be right at the side of my body when i go.. then there are the friends and people whose lives i've touched.. and hopefully there may be several dignitaries too? i mean who knows right?.. sigh
i was once asked .. who is the first person i'll look for when i get to heaven.. i think i'll look for God.. and then i'll ask him whats with this game called life? what was its purpose? for amusement? for trial? for nothin?.. we all come and go.. people exit the game daily, jus as people enter the game daily.. to everyone still playin this crooked game, i'd say pick a uniform! and play ya hearts out to win!.. how dya win? well it all depends on how ya define victory then..
i believe in life.. the toughest road usually leads to the best rewards.. i mean of cuz you've also gotta be shrewd too.. for those who have never watched the movie 'big fish' starring ewan mcgregor.. ya oughta catch it.. teaches ya tons about life..
heres a little poem i wrote about what i think sloggin through life is all about..

Dreams are for dreamers,
They'll never be winners.
Heroes emerge from sweat and toil.
Blood of their labour fills the soil.

The fools will forever be,
Those who cry out with self-pity.
Their lives were ever so smooth,
They never knew,
That the world was so uncouth.

Why shed tears of pity alone?
Shed tears of hardship,
Through the years you've known.
The scars which cloak the body,
Shall be medals you wear proudly.

So do not despair,
Blessed is he who labour.
He shall be the heir,
To the very grand honour.
Nil sine labore.

so basically ive been doing some deep thinkin as usual..
i'm quite sick and tired of this bullshit.. dont know how much i can remain composed before im pissed.. is it a way of life or something i wonder?.. honestly im in no position to comment.. but to me how they behave suck.. ok then again i might be wrong..
realised that life is a constant cycle.. dont ya think so?.. but this is one really rapidly changing cycle.. i mean, wtf one moment its good, then wham! the next second it feels a little like shit.. the fluctuations so great its shockin.. and this cycles repetitive.. it usually happens over and over again.. good things that.. sometimes the characters are swapped.. let me correct that.. MOST of the time the characters are swapped.. haha who's the bitch now huh?! its me now actually haha..
so difficult it jus wrecks ya brain.. maybe it isnt intellectual.. maybe its luck.. maybe its about insticts.. i dont know.. actually sometimes i think i do know.. but nobody really knows right? haha.. on the other hand.. there is a tendency of what i would call "the mirage of hell".. people tend to envision the end of the world but it turns out to be mere hallucination.. they end up shooting themselves in the head, when if they'd taken a deep breath and walked away, they might have enjoyed the actual bliss..
pushin the limits is about kiling off a little bit more of the pain each time one does the same thing again.. people do that quite well.. it becomes an art eventually.. an almost pitiful art.. whats bitter is now sweet, whats dark is bright, whats cold is warm.. so if its true, i must say that its quite well done!
damn! anyway i think my ribenas turned bitter! but could i be actually drinking rich wine? haha

------ mad ramblings of an insane fool

i must simply take this opportunity to compliment the artist behind the colourful urban cows spotted all over singapore lately.. simply genius! haha!

okay.. thing is.. ever since last week ive been toyin with the idea of growin a goatee.. haha i know it sounds nuts but its true.. ive been fantasizing with the thought of me having a devilishly sexy goatee ala mr.$#@%^.. before we procceed any further with our intellectual discussion, let me first define a goatee.. a goatee, pronounced as "go-tee" in the english language and a couple of others i would suppose, is a tiny piece of facial hair that grows on your chin.. origins of the name may have come from european goatherds, who thought that the beardlike hair on a goats chin ressembled those on the faces of several of their counterparts.. as i have explained, goatees obviously only apply to men, as a woman having a goatee would be ghastly to say the least..
growing a goatee sounds like a highly tempting proposition but one must be warned that it is actual an extremely dangerous undertaking.. this is due to the simple fact that goatees come in a wide variety not of choice.. there is vast diversity of goatees in the world today.. from straight to curly, long to short, sparse to thick, stubbly to shadow, with accessorising moustache or neat, grande or regular.. opps! that last one doesn't count.
my desired effect is that of the sinister looking, thin, sharp, triangular (no not facing up, facing down) goatee whereby hair only grows from the depression right beneath your lips.. if you cannot find it, use your index finger to press the bottom of your lower lip up, from the centre, and you will locate it.. most people should have no problem finding it.. those who encounter problems may be suffering from what i would classify as "thin-lips syndrome" where sadly they are not as well-endowed as the rest of us.. other unsuitable candidates for such a goatee would include individuals with "butt-chins".. of cause many women think they look terribly attractive but personally i think they look ridiculous.. an arse-looking thing on your face bah!
unfortunately, there is a high chance of an abberation occuring.. this may include the unwanted drugged-up look that will definitely increase your chances of becoming the next SANA poster boy along with cheeky, donavan and the wo3 men2 shi4 brudder gang.. or there is the possiblity of looking extremely soho gay in the likes of darren seah of fame-awards popularity, then again, if he was popular why would i need to introduce him?..
the steps to a successful goatee cultivation are as follows.. upon waking up in the mornings, shave stubble into the desired shape and always use a razor blade, not a vibrator, i mean a vibrating electric shaver.. while at work in the day, regularly touch it and stroke it, if it is long enough, use a comb.. after office hours pubbing at the local bar is the best time to pamper your goatee.. make sure you always order brandy, and when drinking, let the brandy trinkle down your chin.. you may wish to rub the spot a gently in clockwise direction to arouse the desired effect of follicles rising from beneath the skin.. a note of caution is needed though, overt carrassing of the area may cause abrasions on the chin, which will not only hurt, but will look retarded as well.
all in all, members of the sexiest goatee hall of fame include, gurmit singh, george michael and last but definitely not least mr.$#@%^ (now ya know why ms.#$&^ loves him so much, its not the liver!). hopefully in the not too distant future, i too may be the proud owner of a sexy goatee worthy of mention among the stars.

What if God was one of us - Joan Osborne

If God had a Name,
what would it be and -
would you call it to His face
if you were faced with Him
in all His Glory,
what would you ask
if You had just one question...

and yeah, yeah
God is great
Yeah, yeah
God is good
Yeah, yeah
yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of Us?
Just a slob like one of Us?
Just a stranger on a bus, trying to make His
way home...

If God had a face,
what would it look like and
would wou want to see
if seeing meant that
You would have to believe
in things like
Heaven and in Jesus and the Saints
and all the Prophets and...

Yeah, yeah
God is great
Yeah, yeah
God is good
Yeah, yeah
yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of Us?
Just a slob like one of Us?
Just a stranger on a bus,
trying to make His way Home...

Tryin' to make his way Home
Back up to Heaven all alone...
Nobody callin' on the phone
'Cept for the Pope maybe in Rome...

and Yeah, yeah
God is Great
Yeah, yeah
God is Good
Yeah, yeah
yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of Us?
Just a slob like one of Us?
Just a Stranger on a bus,
trying to make His way Home...
just tryin to make his way home...
Just like a holy rolling stone...
